Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ethereum mining still profitable?
Absolutely. Although it takes time, Ethereum is still considered the most profitable cryptocurrency to mine by many experts. In addition, it’s a lot easier to mine than other cryptocurrencies. Several other cryptocurrencies, startups, and projects depend on Ethereum, as they are built on the Ethereum network.
Is there any Ethereum mining software that is free?
Yes. Ethminer is an entirely open-source mining software, free to download, and has no developer fees.
What is the most profitable Ethereum mining software?
Although profitability depends on various factors, including rig configuration, GPU, and CPU settings, Ethminer can be considered the most profitable because it is free to download and doesn’t charge any developer fees.
What is the fastest Ethereum mining software?
T-Rex and GMiner are currently considered the fastest Ethereum mining software available. However, mining software developers are constantly pushing out new updates, so this could obviously change with time.
Can I mine Ethereum on my PC?

Yes. However, you must be producing more Ethereum than the power you’re consuming – otherwise, you will not make a profit. That being said, your best bet for mining Ethereum is with GPU or ASIC hardware.
What do I need to start mining for Ethereum?
There are a few things you’ll need before you start mining for Ethereum, including suitable mining hardware that will help maximize your earnings as well as a secure and reputable Ethereum wallet. If you’re planning on mining Ethereum long-term, choosing a designated mining location with cool temperatures is also ideal.
How long does it take to mine 1 Ethereum?
According to Planet Crypto, Ethereum has a block time of roughly 13 to 15 seconds, and each block awards you 2 ETH. Unfortunately, there are other factors that come into play that will make the process take a lot more time. Due to the fact that Ethereum’s difficulty has increased dramatically over the last year, your mining profitability decreases because you’re not as likely to be chosen for the next block.
That being said, most people who mine for Ethereum don’t have a goal of mining 1 Ethereum, but rather, they seek out to earn smaller rewards as part of a mining pool. This allows them to combine their power for a higher chance of success. After rewards are earned, they are distributed across the pool based on the amount of power each person contributes.
I have compiled command line miners for XMR available here (including updated versions for RandomX):
With instructions included. You can also buy Monero/XMR by clicking this link:
But if you'd rather compile the code and mine Monero yourself, here are some simple instructions:
Easyminer Download Windows 10 64 Bit
Note that there were originally separate projects for GPU and CPU mining XMR which have been merged together. The first tutorial here will focus on the newer, merged miner, and below that will remain the instructions for the older miners from the original tutorial.
Compiling xmr-stak for macOS
The code for the miner can be found here:
These instructions require homebrew, which you can get from http://brew.sh
To compile for AMD GPUs and CPU mining use the following commands in the Terminal app:
The last command starts the miner and will present you with a setup dialog where you can enter your pool details.
To compile for Nvidia GPUs and CPU mining use the following commands in the Terminal app:
The last command starts the miner and will present you with a setup dialog where you can enter your pool details.
To compile for CPU mining only use the following commands in the Terminal app:
The last command starts the miner and will present you with a setup dialog where you can enter your pool details.
To compile for AMD or Nvidia only without the cpu mining capability, add the flag -DCPU_ENABLE=OFF to the cmake command.

Compiling the older xmr-stak-amd and xmr-stak-cpu for macOS
For AMD GPU mining, you can find the code for a miner athttps://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak-amd
You'll need to install the dependencies libhttpd and openssl - I used homebrew which you can get from http://brew.shrun
then run
Easy Miner Macos Update
a folder called bin will now contain a binary called xmr-stak-amd which is what you can use to GPU mine XMR/Moneromove the config.txt file from the parent directory in to the bin folder and edit it so the lines below look like this:
for most Macs, if you have a 'trashcan' Mac Pro or any other macOS setups with two GPUs like this:
Make sure to change the pool details in the config.txt file to your pool details too and you'll be good to go!
Now you can run the xmr-stak-amd binary in Terminal and it'll connect to your pool and start mining straight away.
If you need any more help please check out http://fabulouspanda.com/forum
For XMR CPU mining grab the code from
You can just download the zip as you don't need to get a particular branch for the CPU miner to workUse homebrew as outlined above to install libmicrohttpd and openssl but also run
then cd to the xmr-stak-cpu folder and run
edit the config.txt file with your pool details and as with the GPU miner, you're ready to go!
